5 – Ardenay

Chaudefonds

Puddingstone and Carboniferous Coal

Ardenay is situated on the tip of the Corniche Angevine, a listed site separating the Layon valley from the Loire valley. Ardenay was a once a village of coal miners who worked locally. We fell in love with this magnificent hillside perched above a cliff plunging south-east towards the Layon. The view over the whole Layon valley is breathtaking. In the distance you can see the bell tower of our village of Saint Lambert. We replanted this impressively sloping hillside in 2017.
